多くの種では背弁を欠き、後胸背板がＸ隆起の後方に認められる(例外：Cicadatrini)。
♂外部生殖器uncusをpygoferに収納できる。基本的にはuncusは小さい突起状であるか、または存在しない。uncusと別に発達したclasperを持つ。
