特徴[1][2]
体は太い。
♂では腹部が明瞭に膨隆する。
頭部（複眼を含む）は中胸背基部よりも狭い。
単眼は、互いの間隔と複眼からの間隔がほぼ同じ。
複眼は大きく、斜めであり、突出する。
額（front）は幅広く、鈍く凸状である。
前胸背側縁は拡張せず、後側角は拡張して丸みを帯びる。
後胸背（metanotum）は明瞭に後方へ突出し、外部から視認できる。
背弁は存在せず、tympanaは完全に露出する。
前脚腿節は太く、棘を備える。
♂腹弁は短く、やや退化的で、発音腔（sonorous cavities）を覆わない。
前翅および後翅は透明。
前翅には8個の翅端室があり、第7室は第8室より長い。
内側のulnar areaは基部と先端の幅がほぼ等しく、前縁はわずかに凸状。
basal cellは幅と比べてかなり長い。
特にconviva groupに関する文献内には、「多くの種は」として以下の記載がある。
多くの種は、一見して同じような外観をしているものが多い。
♂は褐色（ochraceous）で、腹部背面中央に褐色から赤褐色の縦帯をもつ。
腹部各節の後縁は鮮紅色または橙色を呈する。
腹部の腹側外縁には暗色斑の列があり、通常は第3節から第7～8節まで続く。
♀はより灰褐色で、全体に密に斑点が散在する。
普通腹部の赤色の縁はなく、腹側外縁の暗色斑列も不明瞭。
