特徴[1][2][3][4]
体は多少とも扁平。
頭部は幅広い。
頭頂幅は広く、複眼は全般的にさほど突出しない。
胸部は幅広い。
前胸背側縁は板状に広がり、三角形から円形となる。
腹部は比較的短い。
♂腹弁は横長の楕円形で、左右は中央で重なるか接近する。
ほとんどの場合、背弁は発音膜の全体または、ほぼ全体を覆う(Hamzaを除く)。
前翅は透明、あるいは顕著な斑紋がある、または不透明。
前翅の前縁脈はときに外側に湾曲する。
♀産卵管は腹部第9節を超えない。

本来、PlatypleuriniはHamziniの新参異名だが、
これまで”Platypleuriini”を表すのに用いられてきた重み等を考慮し、引き続き用いられている[5]。
